Today’s Ultrabooks are a bridge between traditional, 4-6 pound laptops and the new age of lightweight machines that can be carried in one hand. Tablets and smart phones are surely behind the push, but it is a welcome one that will likely change how we use our portable computers. The future of the Ultrabook is filled with possibility then as consumers move towards mobility and are less concerned with raw power. Here are some things we can expect to see in 2012 and beyond from the Ultrabook lineup.

Better Battery Performance

With tablets getting upwards of 10 hours or more of battery life, laptops need to rack up the efficiency. Current Ultrabooks get upwards of 6-7 hours of battery life, but the next generation of Ultrabooks will do even better, moving toward the 10 hour mark thanks to Intel’s Ivy Bridge processor – yet to be released but expected very soon. You’ll also see a number of new manufacturers which means more competition and better features across the board.

Touch Friendly

Windows 8 is expected to be released at the end of 2012 and that means a push toward touch friendly computing not only on tablets, but on PCs as well. Already at CES 2012 we saw swiveling Ultrabooks (without a release date yet) that combined touch screen and traditional interface. The new format will be perfect for Windows 8 which is built around the concept of the dual inputs.

Bigger, Better and Cheaper

Of course, as with any computing device, you’ll always feel one step behind the curve as soon as you buy. Ultrabooks will evolve rapidly and offer more advanced displays (expect 1080p high definition soon), advanced input and output technologies and the price of the entry level models will start to fall. If you’re in the market for a new PC don’t wait this year (now is a perfect time actually as the next lineup is preparing to launch at the end of the year), but in 2013, prices may drop sharply, offering the first $500 Ultrabooks.

Competing with Tablets

When Intel developed the specifications for the Ultrabook and started offering subsidies to companies that built them, the goal was clear – compete with the rise of tablets at all costs. This is a company with chips in billions of machines around the globe and they cannot afford to allow tablets to supplant the laptop market that has increasingly become the bread and butter of PC manufacturers. So, what appears in tablets you can expect to see in Ultrabooks shortly after. Faster processors, brighter screens, sleek aluminum cases, and touch screens all top the list. But, keep an eye out for other possible upgrades – from high resolution webcams to NFC payment technology built into the machine. The Ultrabook is just getting started.

Lenovo has been making laptops for many years and in that time they have seen their fair share of ups and downs. So when looking at the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s Ultrabook, it is wonderful to see all of the things Lenovo has done with the new technology. This machine is sleek, attractive, and built for performance.

What to Expect from Your Lenovo IdeaPad U300s Ultrabook

The Lenovo IdeaPad U300s Ultrabook starts with familiar specs for anyone currently researching an Ultrabook. It uses the second generation Intel Core processors – the entry and mid-level models carry an i5 processor with 1.6 GHz and the high end model uses the i7 processor with 1.8Ghz.

All three models have the same 4GB of DDR3 memory and only the lower end model uses the 128GB SSD hard drive while both higher end models sport a more spacious 256 GB SSD hard drive – very much needed in a Windows 7 computer.

Here is where the IdeaPad Ultrabook really stands out though – it is one attractive looking machine. At just over a half inch thick and weighing under 3 pounds, it is sleek and lightweight. Combined with the full aluminum shell and inset keyboard, you’d swear you were looking at a Macbook. This is a great looking machine.

Lenovo brings its own rapid start technology to the tablet with RapidDrive which allows the computer to boot up in as little as 10 seconds. You may never turn the computer off again – simply drop it into sleep mode and it will wait there for up to 3 weeks for you to turn it back on.

Lenovo brings a couple of other interesting new technologies to the table as well, including Wireless Display technology which allows you to stream your laptop contents directly to a TV or computer screen with an adaptor. You’ll also receive an HDMI output, which is a nice touch in an era where new PCs are increasingly leaving display ports behind.

The Drawbacks of the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s Ultrabook

It’s attractive, powerful and filled with perks, but the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s has its drawbacks as well. At the top of the list is the storage issue. Of course, this is a problem all Ultrabooks have, but if you are interested in a lightweight computer, be prepared to start picking and choosing which files you save. Windows 7 and the recovery partition from Lenovo will use up about 45 GB on your hard drive – severely cutting back what you have to work with.

lenovo ideapad u300s ultrabook

Compared to some other machines, the U300s doesn’t have the same strengths in display output. Slightly lower resolution, a lighter dimmer screen and you have a machine that runs fantastic but looks merely okay.

The Bottom Line

If you want an Ultrabook that runs smoothly and provides steady performance with a number of perks, the Lenovo IdeaPad U300s Ultrabook is a great place to start. Other Ultrabooks may offer better resolution or a greater degree of customization at this price point, but in terms of raw performance and appearance, the IdeaPad U300s is at the top the list.

While not technically an Ultrabook, the Macbook Air could be seen as a prototype for the wave of new PC counterparts currently hitting the market. The first Macbook Air model was released in 2010 and offered something that had not been done successfully before then – combining the power of a full-sized laptop with the streamlined look and feel of a netbook.

While not at first a big seller, the Macbook Air has been updated frequently since its initial release and with a lower price point than the Macbook Pro and a number of powerful upgrades over its predecessors, the Macbook Air is a clear leader in the field of streamlined, ultra portable laptop computing.

The Macbook Air at a Glance

In mid-2011, Apple did away with the Macbook – the plastic, white entry level device in its Macbook lineup. The Macbook Air took over and received a number of upgrades to make it more than just a smaller and slower version of the Macbook Pro.

While it may look the same as its predecessors, the 2011 Macbook Air is loaded with powerful features including the entry-level Intel Core i5 processor (upgradeable to Core i7), Apple-only Thunderbolt I/O port for connecting to an external display, high speed flash storage and up to a 13.3 inch display.

Essentially, when compared to the line of Ultrabooks hitting the market, the Macbook Air is fairly close on most technical fronts. It’s entry level model is a little smaller at only 11.6 inches (closer to a netbook than a true laptop) and the $999 price point will net you only 64 GB of SSD storage and 2GB of memory, it is as sleek and accessible as any computer built by Apple.

Honestly, when comparing an entry level Air to a full sized Pro, the main differences are really just in size, weight and raw performance numbers for things like graphics. The Pro has the hardware – a disc drive, standalone graphics card, and traditional hard drive with a lot more storage. The Air does not – it is lightweight and fast, designed to be used by people who need something small and easy to access.

MacBook Air

In terms of battery life, the Macbook Air gets a respectable 6 hours of active battery life, up from the 5 hours it got in its previous model. While not exactly eye-popping compared to other devices, it is solid overall.

The Drawback of a Macbook Air

This is the part of the review where I tell you in great depth why an Apple computer is not always the best option and why you must decide between Mac OSX and Windows 7.

Let’s skip the Apple and/or PC bashing for now and look at the machine alone. It’s hard to look past the cost of an Apple computer. You’re paying at least an extra $500 compared to comparable Ultrabooks. If you’ve owned a Mac in the past, you know this to be the case; if not, you should be prepared for it. To get the full sized Macbook Air (13.3 inch screen, 256 GB storage), you need to shell out $1,599.

Things like Thunderbolt are nice but until they become a more standardized format in devices, it will be a novelty that requires a Mini-display adaptor to actually use with most monitors (save the massive $999 model Apple sells).

And of course there is the Windows issue. If you want to run all of your heavy duty software, you’ll need to either purchase a version for Mac or install Windows on your machine using Bootcamp (or another comparable piece of software).

The Bottom Line

If you have owned a Mac before and liked it, then the Macbook Air is a fantastic laptop that offers the performance of OSX in a lightweight package. You won’t be doing much in the way of gaming or video editing on a machine like this and if you opt for a lower-priced model, you will soon have storage issues, but in terms of performance, appearance and overall appeal, this is Apple’s best lightweight effort yet.

In the last few years, Toshiba has produced some of the highest quality mid-range Windows 7 laptops on the market. Reliable, speedy and attractive, their Satellite machines have a strong following for good reason. So, with the launch of the Portege line of Ultrabooks, Toshiba hopes to capture that lightning in a bottle once more and provide top tier mobile, lightweight computing for Windows 7 users.

The Portege at a Glance

If you have read anything about Ultrabooks in the last few months, you should be fairly familiar with what the Portege Z835 lineup has to offer. The P370 is a mid-range option in this line – starting at $950 and including an Intel Core i5 processor, 6GB of DDR3 memory, and a 128GB SDD hard drive.

As with other ultrabooks, the Portege does not sport an optical drive and has an onboard graphics chip that allocates memory from your system memory, so don’t expect to use this machine for any heavy duty gaming any time soon.

Battery life is a huge plus for the Portege. Out of the box, Toshiba claims you will get up to 8.28 hours of battery life, though actual benchmarks put the number closer to 7 and a half hours – still a very strong number when compared to other models currently on the market. And at less than 2.5 pounds, it is super sleek. Sporting the metal case that has become so popular in recent years, the Portege looks…amazing.

Performance at a Glance

So, the Portege looks amazing, has a strong lineup of components under the hood and is backed by a powerful brand in portable computing. How does it stand up to the demands of daily use?

First, there is the start from sleep feature that Ultrabooks all sport. While Toshiba’s technology isn’t quite as “instant” as say Acer or Asus, it is still very respectable at less than 10 seconds from sleep to editing your documents. Combined with a 2+ week standby time on its battery, you’ll be hard pressed to turn the machine off anytime soon.

With an i5 processor and a solid 6GB of memory, this machine will do almost anything you need it to. Benchmarks for standard performance in photo editing and web surfing are solid across the board and honestly, it looks really good.

Drawbacks of the Portege

If there is one drawback that most reviewers point to after spending time with the Portege, it is the fan noise. It turns on frequently (even with the recent bios upgrade from Toshiba), it stays on for a long time and it makes a tremendous amount of noise. No one wants their machine to overheat, but still, this is a bit excessive.

The touchpad has been another point of contention for many Portege owners – a holdover from Satellite touchpad issues on older Toshiba models.

Still, when you consider the sheer number of things the Portege does right, it’s incredibly lightweight chassis and the fact that it runs smoothly for days, even when left on, the drawbacks are easy to overlook.

toshiba portege z835-p370 ultrabook

The Right Fit for the Portege

With so many very similar Ultrabooks flooding the market at the same time, it’s hard to know for sure which is the best fit for your needs. Yes, the Portege still has many of the drawbacks that other machines in this category have – no optical drive, limited graphical capabilities, and limited storage – but with its steady performance, the Portege is by far one of the best fits for the crown of top Ultrabook on the market and the price is impossible to ignore.

hp folio 13-1020us ultrabook

Since the beginning of 2012, there have been more than a dozen major brands to release Ultrabooks. To date, it has been hard to pick a clear winner for the crown of “best” on the market. The HP Folio 13-1020US very well may be the machine we’ve been waiting for because it goes above and beyond its competitors in a number of important categories.

Taking the HP Folio for a Spin

The HP Folio at first glance is very similar to its Ultrabook brethren. It offers the same second generation Intel Core i5 processor and Intel HD 3000 graphics chip. It has 4GB of DD3 system memory and it comes with a 128GB SSD flash hard drive. All of this is pretty standard stuff and performance-wise, the Folio line of Ultrabooks is not much different than the Portege or Aspire lines from Toshiba and Acer.

However, HP has found a few very important ways to set itself apart from the competition. First, there is the battery life. Arguably, the most important factor in the purchase of an Ultrabook should be longevity. A machine designed to weigh so little and take up so little space begs to be used outside the house, but without the right battery, that isn’t an option. Instead of cutting the weight to a razor thing 2-3 pounds, HP included a slightly larger battery to ensure battery life of 9.25 hours (on nominal settings). Still very light at 3.3 pounds, the Folio is a good mixture of the netbook and laptop design aesthetics we’ve grown used to.

There are other fun surprises to be had from HP’s Ultrabook as well. An HDMI port is an uncommon touch for a laptop this small and the backlit keyboard is attractive and useful when flying. It also has a USB 3.0 port which many other Ultrabooks lack, and while it’s recovery time is fairly slow compared to other Ultrabooks (about 15 seconds), it is still exceptionally fast compared to larger, HDD based machines.

Drawbacks of the HP Folio

The HP Folio 13-1020US is an incredible machine. It is well built, filled with surprise features and designed for on-the-go computing so there really are not that many drawbacks. The common Ultrabook drawbacks are all here – no optical drive, small SSD hard drive (only about 80GB available after OS and recovery partition) and limited ports – but beyond that it performs well in most regards.

Don’t expect to play high end games or edit videos on this machine. It isn’t designed for that kind of heavy use. But, for everyday computing – from watching movies to working on spreadsheets and surfing the Internet, there are very few drawbacks.

The Bottom Line

The HP Folio 13-1020US is the best Ultrabook on the market as of March, 2012, hands down. Battery life alone would make it a clear leader, but combined with its sleek design, exceptional performance in a number of benchmarks and lightweight form factor, it is a perfect machine for anyone on the go. If you are considering an Ultrabook to replace your desktop or current laptop, give the HP Folio a closer look.

Starting toward the end of 2011, a new style of laptop began hitting the market promising lightning speed boot times and super lightweight design. These Ultrabooks have grown in popularity as more models become available and the price goes down. With so many options on the market, however, many want to know how to buy an Ultrabook. Here are some of the factors you should keep in mind when preparing to purchase a new Ultrabook.

Know What You Are Buying

First, know that an Ultrabook usually consists of the following key features:

• Super Thin – Usually between a half inch and 0.8 inches in width at their thickest point.
• Light Weight – Most Ultrabooks are less than 3 pounds and some even get close to 2 pounds.
• Bootup Super Fast – All Ultrabooks have fast start technology that allows them to turn on quickly and recover from sleep mode in less than 10 seconds (sometimes as fast as 2 seconds).

At the same time, the Ultrabook line sacrifices some of the technologies you’ve come to know and love in your laptop to achieve those super fast boot times and ultra light weights. Be prepared to give up:

• Optical Drive – Only one official “Ultrabook” on the market today has an optical drive and at nearly 4 pounds, it is more of a hybrid than a true Ultrabook.
• SSD – Using Flash storage, Ultrabooks can load incredibly fast – almost on par with tablets and phones. At the same time, those Flash hard drives are smaller, sometimes only offering 80GB of storage after system files are accounted for. Some Ultrabooks use a traditional SATA hard drive with a smaller 20GB SSD for the fast booting effect.
• Pricing – Ultrabook pricing starts at $800 and ranges as high as $1600, and most machines have similar specifications.

Taking all of these details into consideration to purchase an Ultrabook that is right for you can be tough.

Making Your Decision

When deciding which Ultrabook is right for you, start with price and work your way backward. If you really feel you need the additional power of an i7 processor or a larger hard drive, ask yourself if the $1500+ price tag is worth the trade off for a super light machine. In contrast, a similar machine that weighs between 4-6 pounds will cost you about $300-$400 less.

Of course, if you have been eyeing a Macbook Air for the last two years and are excited by a Windows 7 alternative, then these prices shouldn’t phase you one bit as almost every single Ultrabook PC is less expensive than its Apple equivalent.

At the end of the day, the best Ultrabook may not be the most expensive one, but the one that fits your particular needs. As the label becomes more ubiquitous, expect a surge of new products to hit the market with faster processors, more powerful graphics chips and larger hard drives too – if you don’t need a new machine right now, it may be in your best interest to wait just a little longer.

The vast majority of Ultrabooks on the market in 2012 aim for one thing and one thing only – portability. They trim weight any way they can and the result is a sleek, streamlined package that goes anywhere, but at a cost. These pared down computers have no optical drive and skimp on storage to get the job done.

Samsung’s Series 5 Ultrabook is different in a number of ways, combining the best aspects of an Ultrabook with a full scale laptop. Does it work, though? That is the most important question.

The Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook at a Glance

Released in early 2012, the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook is something of a marvel when you consider its specs. It sports the same Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB system memory and Intel HD 3000 graphics chip, but at the same time, it manages to squeeze in a full optical drive and a 500GB HDD without adding a whole lot of extra weight. In fact, this Ultrabook weighs in at just under 4 pounds – still very sleek compared to the 6 and 7 pound behemoths that have long dominated the market.

At about 0.82 inches thick at its thickest point, it is also very thin and can offer a full 14 inch screen, larger than most other Ultrabook offerings. That’s where the Samsung Series 5 stands out. At the same time, you’ll get the very same fast booting technology that defines the Ultrabook trend. From cold to active, your computer will boot in less than 20 seconds and from sleep it boots in less than 2 seconds. Of course, boot speed will depend greatly on which model of HDD you get as the traditional spinning hard drive can slow things down in the lower end models.

With the extra space, the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook also manages to provide a number of additional ports including both VGA and HDMI, a LAN port and two USB 3.0 ports as well as a USB 2.0 port and card reader. In essence, this is a full scale laptop in an Ultrabook frame. On top of all this, the matte screen looks incredible in partial sunlight, making it possible to actually get work done outside.

The Drawbacks of the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook

The problem of course is that calling the Samsung Series 5 an Ultrabook isn’t quite accurate. Yes, an Ultrabook is defined by that quick start technology and getting the weight under 4 pounds, but most Ultrabooks are even lighter and even smaller. There is a very real market for this computer, but if you come in looking for a 2.5 pound computer, this isn’t it.

samsung series 5 np530u4b ultrabook

The Bottom Line

There isn’t much negative to say about the Samsung Series 5 Ultrabook. If this computer had been released a year earlier it would have been easily the best machine on the market for someone in need of a lightweight portable PC. Today, there are smaller options that run faster, but if you are concerned about giving up the amenities of a full laptop – namely the hard drive space of an HDD and the convenience of an optical drive and multiple outputs, then Samsung Series 5 NP530U4B-A01US 14 Inch Ultrabook is the perfect compromise.

If lightning-fast broadband speed is what you’re after, Motorola’s SB6121 SURFboard delivers what your heart desires. It employs the power of the DOCSIS 3.0 technology to bond up to four downstream channels and four upstream channels.

This modem provides you with the ultimate Internet surfing experience with data rates of more than 100Mbps in each direction. It takes gaming, shopping, downloading, working, high-quality voice and video conferencing, and peer-to-peer networking applications to a whole new level.

What is the Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem?

Motorola’s SURFboard SB6121 delivers a complete personal media experience, at lightning-fast broadband speed like you’ve never seen before. With the DOCSIS 3.0 specification, cable Internet providers can take advantage of the extra capacity provided by channel-bonding technology in order to offer ultra-fast broadband services. Channel bonding allows parallel data pipes to act as a single broadband conduit. Each channel can provide about 40 Mbps of data. This means the Motorola SURFboard SB6121′s four downstream channels can provide up to 160 Mbps of throughput.

Cable providers max out at around 50 Mbps of downstream data throughput. The Motorola SB6121 SURFboard DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem allows cable Internet providers to continue to improve the speed of their networks. This is great news to the residential cable subscriber who wants a powerful modem capable of delivering a high-speed data service at incredibly fast speeds.

• Efficient: It offers innovative, high-bandwidth data and multimedia services to customers. It has Backward-compatible to DOCSIS/EuroDOCSIS 1.x and 2.0. Gone are unsightly modems as this has a stylish and space-saving enclosure.

• Advanced Services Ready: This is DOCSIS 3.0-certified (EuroDOCSIS 3.0-based). It is channel bonding of up to 4 downstream and 4 upstream channels, as well as 1 GHz capable tuners. It supports IPv4 and IPv6 to expand network addressing capabilities.

• Reliable and Secure: The enhanced security supports Advanced Encryption Services (AES) traffic encryption. It is remotely configurable and monitorable using SNMP and TFTP.

Cons

Some people who purchased this modem reported it did not live up to their high speed expectations. Some say it disconnects without warning. This is certainly a crime with any modem. A number of people reported it did not work with Comcast.

Should You Buy a Motorola SB6121 SURFboard Cable Modem?

If Internet speed is important to you, the Motorola SB6121 SURFboard Cable Modem is a great purchase. Overall, it is highly rated and does a great job of providing superior Internet speed.

E-readers have literally taken the world by storm in the last few years. Amazon’s Kindle was one of the first on the market and literally set the standard that others are judged by. One of their latest editions is the Kindle Touch. This is a step up from the last generation’s Kindle Keyboard. The Touch offers the finger tap technology that many consumers have come to expect from their electronic devices.

What’s Different About the Kindle Touch?

Without a doubt, Kindle’s superiority over other e-reader devices is the ability to read in bright sunlight, just like a traditional paper book. With Kindle’s high-contrast, most advanced E-Ink touchscreen, it reads like real paper, with no glare. You can read as easily in bright sunlight as in your living room.

The new feature on this newest edition of the Kindle is the simple to use touchscreen, as well as an easy-to-use touch interface. You can turn pages, search, shop books and take notes quickly and easily, just like you would with a traditional book.

The Kindle Touch is easy to use. You can be using it within minutes out of the box. It connects to Wi-Fi hotspots at home or on the road, including free Wi-Fi access at AT&T hotspots across the U.S. Once you find a book to read, you read it within sixty seconds with the free wireless delivery. No computer required. You can even email personal documents and PDF to read on it.

With an Amazon Prime membership, you can “borrow” Kindle books for free, including over 100 current and former New York Times Bestsellers with no due date. There are over 1 million books to purchase for the Kindle and over 800,000 are $9.99 or less. You can also access free samples of books, too.

With “text to speech” enabled, Kindle Touch can read English language content aloud to you.

E-books are backed up on Cloud so you never have to worry about losing any of your library. You can re-load it wirelessly at any time.

Special Kindle Touch Features

There are a number of features on the Kindle Touch that make it a unique reading experience.
* Light and Compact: 6″ screen size, 7.5 ounces.
* Holds 3,000 Books
* Two Month Battery Life: extended battery life with wireless turned off
* Adjustable Text Sizes
* Ergonomic Design
* Touch Controls and Virtual Keyboard
* New Touch Experience – EasyReach Technology: allows readers to get lost in the reading experience instead of focusing on constantly tapping the screen to turn the page
* Never Gets Hot
* Built-in Wi-Fi
* Free Access at AT&T Hotspots
* Adjustable Text Sizes, Font Choices
* Fast Page Turns
* Support for Non-Latin Characters
* Full Image Zoom
* Real Page Numbers
* Built-In Dictionary with Instant Lookup
* X-Ray: a new feature that lets customers explore the “bones of the book.” With a single tap, readers can see all the passages in the book that mention ideas, characters, historical figures, places or topics that interest them.
* Lend Your Books
* Public Library Books
* Organize Your Library
* Password Protection
* Games

Cons

Many users who complained were previous Kindle Keyboard users and they stated the Kindle Touch is not as good of a Kindle as the Keyboard model. They claim the contrast is not as good, with more grays on the Touch instead of the black and white contrast the Kindle Keyboard offered.

Some complaints on the Kindle Touch focused on the touchscreen being too sensitive, while others focused on it not being sensitive enough. This discrepancy is likely based on previous experience with touchscreens and what expectations users came to the Kindle Touch with.

This Kindle comes with or without special offers and this impacts the price. The special offers (or ads) were slightly obtrusive to some customers but overall it was not a big issue.

Should You Buy the Kindle Touch Wi-Fi, 6″ E Ink?

Amazon has outdone themselves with each new release of the Amazon Kindle. The Kindle Touch is no different. With its Touchscreen technology and superior advanced E-ink that makes reading outside possible, this Kindle is a must for anyone who wants to have an e-reader. Amazon makes it easy to access literally a million books in just seconds so you will never be without reading material. The numerous features the Kindle Touch has make it extremely affordable for an e-reader.

With LED picture quality and a TruMotion 120Hz refresh rate, the LG 42LV4400 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV will make you feel like you are right in the middle of the action. Sports and fast action movies on the LV4400 will take on a whole new dimension in TV watching.

What the LG 42LV4400 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV All About?

The TruMotion 120Hz technology in the LG 42-Inch 1080p HDTV lets you see sports, high-speed action, video games and with almost no motion blur. Now it’s up to you to keep up with your fast-moving entertainment, not your TV.

The stunning picture on this HDTV is the reason you sought out HDTV in the first place. It has almost double the pixel resolution of a standard HDTV. With Full HD, 1080p gives you superior picture quality over standard the HDTV. You will be blown away by the details and colors like you’ve never before.

Intelligent Sensor Technology

The TV adjusts automatically for an optimal viewing experience. The Intelligent Sensor automatically adjusts the picture to the lighting and color conditions in the room for the most enjoyable viewing experience possible. It also reduces screen noise without reducing quality.

Have a Great TV Experience and Save the Environment

LG 42-Inch 1080p HDTV has an ENERGY STAR rating. That means it meets the strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. For a TV that means it saves energy both in standby and active modes. In order for a TV to qualify for the ENERGY STAR rating it must use about 30% less energy than standard units.

Notable Features
The LG 42LV4400 42-Inch 1080p 120Hz LED-LCD HDTV offers many unique features that make it stand out from the crowd:
* LG’s LED technology provides a slim profile and delivers amazing brightness, clarity and detail with rich and bold colors, as well as greater energy efficiency compared to conventional LCD TVs.
* The unique TruMotion 120Hz technology lets you see sports, video games and high-speed action with essentially no motion blur.
* Full HD 1080p gives this HDTV superior picture quality over the standard HDTV.
* There is a 1 Year Parts & Labor warranty.

Cons

There are some reviewers who said the TV stopped working after a short period of time. If you purchase it from Amazon and this happens, Amazon will replace it for free. Some also complained of poor coloring. This can be fixed with some minor tweaking of the color settings. Still others expressed concerns of poor sound quality. If this is an issue, you can buy a cheap PC subwoofer (under $20) and plug it into the analog line out. This will drastically improve the sound quality.
